Alpine Sun

3D prototype for the beginning of the game

My role:
level design, gameplay design, worldbuilding, prototyping

This Unreal Engine prototype was created along the development of my idea of Alpine Sun, a game bringing together platformer, survival and simulator mechanics.

The prototype represents the beginning of the game, with markings for tutorial steps, cut scenes, key gameplay activities and first enemies.

The player, controlling a young chamois, finds themself among snowy mountains. Following the mother goat, they get to know the basic move-look controls, learn how to run faster and slow down, jump, glide down icy slopes, climb up and down steep mountainsides, forage for food and water in order to prevent hunger and fatigue.

The first threat is an avalanche coming down on the herd. In order to escape from it, the player needs to choose the fastest way to get to the other side of the chasm below, leaving the deadly wave of snow behind.

As the remaining herd winds its way down the mountain, the landscape changes. Instead of snow and ice, the ground is now covered with mosses and young shoots. However, while the search for food becomes easier, predators show up, 

including eagles preying on smallest and weakest chamois. The player learns from another goat how to hide from these birds in stone cracks.

Here the prototype comes to an end for now, but the work will continue along with the development of the concept!
